After answering numerous emails, meeting tight deadlines, and putting out a few client fires, you will be exhausted and waiting to get home and relax. But you might find it hard to calm your mind after work and truly rest, primarily if you work in a high-pressure job. If this is the case, these tips will give you a few ideas on how to relax, so you are ready for a new day.

1. Disconnect

Technology has terrific benefits, and we wouldn’t argue about that. But, the world is developing an unhealthy attachment, with 84% of people claiming they would never go a day without their cell phones. Most time is spent chatting and checking social media. Half cell phone users have admitted sleeping with their cell phones close to them, and checking for messages first thing in the morning. Powering down will, however, help reduce negative feelings such as loneliness, jealousy, and envy, helping you relax. It also combats the fear of missing out and gives you time to be along to think, strategize, and recognize where you can do better. Also, unplugging from work-related tasks helps you be more productive at your job and fosters creativity.

2. Create a serene space

Home should be the place you feel most comfortable and happy. For this to happen, you need to create a peaceful environment by decluttering, adding the correct lighting, and adding home features that create a calming, relaxing ambiance. For instance, consider adding water fountains for your outdoor space. Fountains create white noises that help you calm down and relax. Everyone has a little stress in their life, and the soothing sounds of flowing water may be what you need to relax and destress in the evening. Look for fountains with beautiful water sounds, so they are not overbearing or have no sound at all. Fountains with adjustable pumps are excellent because you can increase and reduce the background noise according to need. 3. Unwind with workout

Everyone knows how important working out is, but sometimes you can be too stressed to fit it into your daily schedule. Working out, however, helps pump endorphins, the feel-good hormone, into your bloodstream, which in turn makes you happier and relaxed. Also, working out is considered meditation in motion. After running a few laps, you will naturally forget the day’s stressors as you concentrate on your body movements. Workout makes it easier for you to focus on a single task, increases your optimism and energy, so you remain calm and clear in everything you do. You don’t have to hit the gym to workout. You can subscribe to yoga or cardio workout on your TV, use YouTube videos, run after your pet, or ask your friend to jog with you around the neighborhood. Meditation is one of the most popular stress reliever methods used today, and with good reason. When we experience stress, our bodies naturally move into the flight or fight response. In extreme cases, like when you are about to fall off a building or be hit by a truck, this response is beneficial. When prolonged, however, it causes physical damage to the body. Meditation affects the body in the exact opposite of this making you relax and forget about what was stressing you. It calms your mind and body by silencing the noise that keeps you in flight-fight response. Your positive mood naturally increases, and you become happier with a spring in your step and a smile on your face.

5. Socialize

Humans are social beings. We naturally want to socialize, enjoy other people’s company, and maintain a sense of connection. That’s why we join groups, chat, call others, and hang out with friends and family. Science has proven that social supports affect how balanced our hormones are, with an adequate amount of social support increasing oxytocin, the hormone responsible for reduced anxiety. You may not have the luxury to socialize every day, but doing it will be great for your health even when done occasionally.

Relaxing is vital for your general well-being. It will help you keep diseases at bay, make you more productive and creative, and ensure you remain happier and contented. You can have a different relaxing activity for each day to mix things up.
