A Quick Summer Cleaning Checklist
Summer is the perfect time for beach vacations, peaceful outdoor dinners, and….cleaning?
The summer season is often a hectic one in most homes, meaning it’s common for clutter and dirt to pile up. Prepare your home for fall by staying on top of your cleaning to-do list.
Keep reading for summer cleaning tips that will have your home sparkling.
Deep Cleaning Your Bathroom
Clean the shower and/or bathtub. Spray the shower or tub with a powerful cleaner (or a DIY version!) and scrub away all that grime. Be sure to get into the nooks and crannies to avoid mildew growth.
Wipe down the sink and countertop. Use a disinfectant to clean all the toothpaste and dirt from the sink and around the faucet handles.
Clean the mirrors. Choose a soft towel and glass-safe spray for this, so the mirrors aren’t scratched.
Wipe down the toilet and its surroundings. A gross job, but someone has to do it! Don’t forget the toilet handle, too.
Wash the shower curtain and bathmats. Check the care instructions for how to best wash these. All towels should be washed as well!
Sweep or mop the floor. Save this step for last to be sure you get all the extra dirt and dust from your deep cleaning.
Freshening Up Bedrooms
Wash the bedding every week. This includes pillowcases, sheets, and blankets.
Stay on top of laundry. Sweaty clothing and wet bathing suits tend to pile up in the summer months, so don’t let that laundry pile get too tall!
Wipe down windows and window sills. Use a glass cleaner and soft cloth to wipe off dust and dirt.
Dust all surfaces. Wipe down bedside tables, desks, and any other dust-ridden areas.
Vacuum or sweep the floors. Don’t forget under the bed!
Creating a Spotless Kitchen
Clean out your fridge and freezer. Throw out any food that’s expired or been opened too long.
Wipe down all countertops and high-touch areas. Sanitize your counters, handles, and any dirty spots, so you don’t attract summer insects.
Organize your pantry. Summer is a great time to go through your snacks and other food to see which ones can stay and which should go.
Clean the microwave. This includes the inside as well as the outside!
Tidying Living Areas
Wipe down windows and surfaces. You know the drill: use a soft cloth to prevent any damage!
Sweep or vacuum the floor. This will help get up any pet hair, too.
Declutter your space. Take time to organize the coffee table or sort through all those games.
Sanitize, clean, or wash kids’ toys, if applicable. You don’t want your children playing with dirty toys, so follow their care instructions to keep them clean and safe.
Cleaning Outdoor Spaces
Sweep your deck or patio. Get rid of any cobwebs or dirt.
Mow the lawn and pick weeds. How often you mow the grass will depend on how fast it grows, but every other week is a good estimate.
Check your gutters. Summer storms can clog up your gutters, so make sure they’re working properly.
Clean your crawl space. Learn about crawl space cleaning to ensure yours is free of debris.
