Having a good suit is a very integral part of a man’s wardrobe. Many of us see words like off the rack suits or bespoke suits when surfing the web, but most of us don’t understand the difference between the two. I have made a list of three things; fitting, pricing, and quality based on which these suits differ. After having a clear understanding of the difference between the two, you can decide what’s best for you.

Off the rack suits are made from machines, made in a specific size range. Whereas a bespoke suit is a custom made suit, where the tailor takes your orders and demands in consideration before tailoring a handmade suit.

A proper fitting is the trademark of a good suit, and you should never skimp on it. Even if you spend hundreds of dollars on a good suit, if it doesn’t fit well; you have wasted your money.

Off The Rack Suits

  • Off the rack suits come in different sizes like Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large. These sizes are manufactured on some predefined rules like chest, waist, and neck size.
  • You can also choose from a variety of slim fit, tailored fit, and regular fit based on your style and comfortability.

Bespoke Suits

  • Bespoke suits are a trademark of fitting as they are specially designed and cut according to your body size and shape.
  • These suits are hand-made, so your tailor takes around 20 measurements of your body, such as arm length, shoulder width, chest size, waist size, and neck size.
  • The result is a suit which gives off the best look. If you want to know more about the process of fitting and tailoring, check out this article on bespoke suits.

Off The Rack Suits

  • If you are buying from a local shop, these suits come at low to a medium price range of $100 to 500 dollars.
  • If you buy from a brand, they may charge you an extra $200-$300 for the brand name. Even after this, you may have to pay money to get the alterations done or spend time to find the perfect suit for you, which requires fewer adjustments.

Bespoke Suits

  • Bespoke suits are more expensive, and they can start anywhere between $2000 and rise to $70,000 if you have an expensive taste.
  • The cost of these suits depends entirely on your demand. You need to work with your tailor to get an overall price of your suit to make sure it meets your budget.

Off The Rack Suits

  • These suits are made from common garment materials like cotton, wool, or a synthetic blend between the two.
  • Although, you can find a unique quality of materials from some high-end brands.
  • Most brands compromise on the quality of the suits to meet the budget requirements and produce low-cost suits.

Bespoke Suits

  • A bespoke suit offers a wide range of expensive fabrics like worsted wool, mohair, flannel, linen, cashmere, silk, and pashmina.

It takes around six weeks to make a bespoke suit, and you have to pay a visit to your tailor consistently. These suits are carefully hand made to achieve the best possible stitching and quality.
