1. Muddy Waters
Muddy Waters (real name McKinley Morganfield) was an icon who rose to fame after World War II. In fact, he’s considered the father of modern Chicago blues, and his music showed how optimistic African-Americans were post-war.
Muddy Waters had a long musical career from 1941 until 1982 and is known as the father of modern Chicago blues. You’ll immediately know if you’re listening to his songs if you hear a deep and dominant voice. And if you hear amazing harmonica tunes, chances are, it’s Muddy Waters too.

2. B.B. King
B.B. King also started his blues career around when Muddy Waters did. From the 1940s to the 1950s, he partook in the blues scene on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee.
Of course, his bellowing voice and fantastic guitar skills soon got him noticed, and he started recording songs in 1949. He then became so dedicated to his career that it’s rumored that he played almost 350 shows in 1956! There’s a reason why they call him the King of Blues.
B.B. King is responsible for inspiring future Southern rock artists, such as the Allman Brothers Band.

3. Howlin’ Wolf
Howlin’ Wolf (real name Chester Arthur Burnett) was Muddy Waters’s rival, though they did perform together with him in 1975, a year before his death. His turf was also in Chicago, and while he started his musical career in the 1930s, he didn’t really become successful until the 1950s.
Howlin’ Wolf was also known for his powerful voice, as well as his commanding physical presence. You’ll enjoy his guitar and harmonica skills on his tracks too.
