All living beings are grouped into five kingdoms. And here we are going to focus on the animal kingdom. There are many types of animals in the world. Some have gills to help them breathe underwater. Some have wings to help them fly. The purpose of these digital stories is to talk about the physical characteristics of animals and how they use their traits to help them survive.
Some animals have fur, scales, or features. Some of them are very big or very small. Each of them is a different color too. These are all characteristics or traits used to identify creatures. Inherited traits are passed down from parents to their children, like hair or scales, the shape of a beak, or what type of teeth you have. Now that we know physical characteristics, let’s learn about six major groups of animals: fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. An invertebrate is an animal that doesn’t have a spine. Some have a soft body or have a hard outer shell that covers them. Warms, squid, insects are examples of invertebrates. Amphibians need to live in wet places like swamps, rivers, and rainfalls.
