Fun Things to Do at Home on a Rainy Day

You woke up with big plans for the day. You were going to do some gardening, enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, take the grandkids to the zoo, and wrap it up with an evening walk with your partner.

Then you looked outside to see gray skies and wet roads. You check the forecast, and to your dismay, it’s going to rain all day. Those plans are shot.

You could throw in the towel and go back to bed. Or, you could find fun things to do at home. We suggest the latter. But what?

The following are six fun things to do at home on a rainy day

Make a small wager

Rainy Day Activities

Football season is upon us. And if it’s Thursday, Sunday, or Monday, there’s a game happening somewhere. Why not make things interesting with a small NFL sportsbook bet? Putting some skin in the game adds additional excitement while also giving you the chance to win some money. While you won’t always succeed, you’ll always have fun. And thanks to online sports betting sites, it’s never been easier for folks to try their luck from the comfort of their couch. That makes sportsbook bets a fun and interesting thing to do on a rainy day.

Binge-watch a show

We live in the golden age of television. What that means is we have no shortage of shows to choose from, mostly thanks to the advent of streaming services. If there’s a show you’ve been meaning to watch but haven’t found the time, a rainy day provides the perfect opportunity to do so. You can knock out an entire season’s worth of episodes within a matter of hours. It beats channel surfing all day.

Read a book

Read a book

Reading is another one of those things that busy people have trouble finding time to do throughout the week. But thanks to nonstop rain all day, now’s your chance. If your home library lacks a new title to devour, consider browsing the options available through Audible and similar online audio book services. A few hours of free time is all it takes to knock out the typical novel, either by old-fashioned reading or listening to someone read it out loud.

Give baking a try

Perhaps you’re someone who enjoys cooking. If so, you probably have a set series of recipes you rely on week in and week out. Why not use a rainy day to try something new? Unsure what to make? Several apps and platforms let you enter the ingredients you have available to see which recipes you can make. Or perhaps you have some old family recipes you’ve been willing to try? Whether you have kitchen experience or not, a rainy day gives you the perfect opportunity to give new recipes a try and perfect your technique in the process.

Do some online shopping

The holidays are fast approaching. If you’re someone who genuinely enjoys buying things for others, consider using your rainy day to get some holiday shopping done. Thanks to Amazon and other online retailers, you can buy all the latest products from the comfort of your couch. That way, when the holiday season is in full swing, you don’t have to worry so much about tracking down the perfect gifts for your loved ones!

Try arts and crafts

Do you have a decent supply of colored markers, crayons, construction paper, glue sticks, and similar items? If so, see if you can’t think of an interesting arts and crafts project to do with your free time. It could be a collage, scrapbook, or abstract art piece. The sky’s the limit. Let your imagination run wild!

Rainy days can be a bummer. But they don’t have to be a complete bust. There are many fun things to do at home while it’s storming outside.
