How to Choose a Good Vape Juice

Vaping has changed the smoking landscape as over 9 million Americans vape regularly. With such a big market, comes with an enormous selection of vape flavors from tobacco flavored to bacon vape juices.

Whether you’re a smoker transitioning to vaping or a complete newbie, here’s how to pick a good vape juice for you.

What Is PG (Propylene Glycol)?

E-juices have two main ingredients: propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin.

Propylene glycol is a petroleum by-product in everyday items such as makeup, lotion shampoos, and medicines.

Studies show it’s safe for oral and topical use and helps thin out ejuices to stop any gunky buildup in your vape device. PG lets a stronger flavor come through and has more of a throat hit from the nicotine. The higher the PG liquid, the quicker it burns at high heats.

As long as you’re not over-sensitive and you don’t have a sub ohm vape, you’ll be able to consume vape juices with a higher PG. It’s important to note that people can get side-effects from PG. Experiment with the ratios to see if it causes dry mouth, allergies and breathing problems. If this is the case, choose a lower ratio or a pure VG blend.

What Is VG (Vegetable Glycerin)?

VG derives from vegetable oil and is common in foods, toothpaste, soap and more. The FDA considers VG a safe substance to consume. It also has a high resistance to heat and unlike PG, high VG ejuices work well with sub ohm vape mods.

VG has a thick consistency and can build up in your device so you must clean it out. It has a sweet flavor and you’ll find candy-flavored ejuices have a higher amount of VG. For those after billowing clouds of vapor, a sub ohm device and high VG e-liquid is the answer.

Finding the Right PG / VG Ratio

PG and VG are the base of all ejuices and are colorless and odorless. Although PG and VG share the same purpose, manufacturers produce different ejuices such as all-PG base, all-VG base and a mixture of the two.

A common PG to VG ratio is 40:60. PG provides more flavor but has a weaker vapor compared to VG. VG produces massive clouds of vapor but its sweet taste can cut eclipse the ejuice’s flavor. When combined, users get the perfect equilibrium of vapor and flavor.

If you are sensitive to PG, aim for an 80% VG and 20% PG or a pure VG blend.

How to Pick the Right Nicotine Content

Unlike cigarettes, vape juices let you tailor the nicotine content to your taste.

Many people want to reduce their nicotine content because of health reasons. But, if you’re an ex-smoker, you may start with higher content and slowly cut down.

Doing this will reduce and even prevent nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Eventually, you can choose a nicotine-free ejuice whilst still getting the benefits of smoking.

Here are the different levels of nicotine:

Light: Choose an ejuice that has 0 mg (nicotine-free) to 6mg for those who smoke less than a pack a day.

Medium: A nicotine content 9mg to 16mg is for average smokers who consume half a pack to one pack a day.

High: 18mg to 35mg nicotine content is for the heavy chain smokers.

It’s important to find the right strength because too little will make you vape more whilst too much can cause headaches. Start with medium strength and then adjust according to your preference.

Single Blend or Mixed Blend?

Searching for your flavor is the exciting part of vaping. Single flavors are a classic and have the best vaping flavors like mango or vanilla.

Or, to experiment, try a blend. Blended vape juices are a mixture of different flavors and a fun alternative from regular options. Pachamama has a range filled with exotic blends such as their Huckleberry Pear Acai ejuice.

If you are trying a new flavor for the first time, buy a smaller bottle (15ml) in case you don’t love it. Or stock up with 120ml bottles with your favorite flavors so you don’t run out for ages.

Tobacco Flavoured Vape Juices

Many smokers ease into vaping and want to keep the smoking experience. And brands cater to this with an array of tobacco flavored vape juices to satiate any cravings. There are traditional tobacco flavors and those with a dash of mint for the smoothest vape juice.

Healthy Vape Juices

If you’re a mindful vaper, don’t fret! You can find good vape flavors that are healthy too by avoiding ejuices that contain traces of diacetyl or acetoin. These often fall under the dessert category and have a buttery, creamy flavor.

The healthiest vape juice will have little to no nicotine content and a higher VG ratio or a pure blend.

Vape Juice That Taste Like Your Favorite Meal

If you’re a die-hard foodie who wants to savor the best vaping flavors all day, you’re in luck. There’s now a menu filled with different ejuices to whet your appetite.
