Job Responsibilities

The Financial Analyst helps keep the organization running smoothly by handling transactions, monitoring the budget, and doing financial planning. Their main tasks are reviewing expenses and giving approvals, processing revenue and other accounting, making regular and special reports, developing and tracking the budget, and ensuring that financial rules and policies are followed. They work with people inside and outside the finance department on various financial issues, and it’s all about making sure resources are used well to support the mission of Rutgers Cancer Institute.

  • Responsible for research, analysis, and organization of budgets and expenditures for assigned operational areas with the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
  • Ensures funding information for all personnel is accurate by monitoring reports and budgets, and processing funding changes in Rutgers systems as needed.
  • Prepares P&L statements, productivity and budget status reports for Rutgers Cancer Institute units (e.g. clinical divisions, service departments, faculty level, etc.).
  • Contributes to the creation of the annual budget and quarterly financial forecasts, including data entry and updates into the EPBCS system.
  • Collaborates with internal teams to collect necessary data for the state appropriation budget application and quarterly submissions. Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of all information and documents to ensure compliance and accuracy for state reporting. Upload and submit all relevant materials via the NJ SAGE state portal.
  • Prepares and submit journal entries within the Oracle system, ensuring the accurate update of revenue and expense schedules.
  • Compiles and maintains A/R and A/P reconciliation schedules, ensuring the completeness of reconciliations for submission to Rutgers Central. Prepare monthly and quarterly AR invoices and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Monitors daily ACH communications from Rutgers Central. Prepare and submit check deposits, handle drop-offs at bank locations, and ensure the timely and accurate clearing of cash entries.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, plus three (3) years of related experience in related fiscal activities.
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in preparing full P&L statements required.
  • Knowledge and experience with journal entries, financial statement preparation and general accounting concepts are also required.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communications, analytical abilities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced skill level in Excel required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the healthcare industry (e.g physician practice or hospital) preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
