Job Responsibilities

  • Cover education-related stories, including issues concerning teaching and learning in K-12, the U.S. Education Department, and education policy.
  • Deliver ambitious news, analysis, and enterprise stories shaped by distinctive, original reporting and agenda-setting insights.
  • Report and write as urgent news and events require, including early versions of stories at times.
  • Develop and maintain high-level sources.

Requirements

  • At least three years’ professional reporting, preferably with experience covering state or national education.
  • Experience covering major breaking news stories, pursuing accountability targets and developing new conceptual and visual approaches to stories.
  • Demonstrated ability to work fast and write clearly on deadline.
  • Ability to develop sourcing on a competitive beat.
  • A collaborative mindset and eagerness to experiment with a variety of story forms.
  • A commitment to fair, accurate and rigorous reporting, upholding the highest standards of journalism ethics.

Salary

$97,400 – $162,300 a year
