After many years any form of online gambling being totally prohibited in the United States under the effects of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, multiple states started to show a huge appetite for various gambling activities. This was made possible by a Supreme Court decision that declared PASPA as unconstitutional. As it was expected, this opened the door for online betting and casinos to penetrate the USA market and start delivering their exceptional services. For the gambling-hungry citizens that could only enjoy the services of shady online casino and bookmakers from Costa Rica or Panama, this came as a huge breath of fresh air. However, things are still far from being clear when talking about the legal USA online gambling landscape. That’s why we are taking a closer look at what’s the current situation and list the states that made the biggest progress towards fully legalizing online gambling.

Check the following states

New Jersey

Even before PASPA was struck down New Jersey showed a lot of promise to all the punters in the United States that hoped to be able to play at fully-legal online casinos and bookmakers one day. This was the state that allowed giants like William Hill of bet365 to operate through a partnership with the local land-based casinos and betting shops. It was clear that after the decision on revoking the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 was final, New Jersey is going to amplify its efforts. So, today this is the state that hosts over a dozen online licensed casinos, sports betting, and poker rooms. If you’re looking for the best legal USA casino online and live in New Jersey, you have a big chance of finding the perfect one.

Pennsylvania

Even though we can’t really consider Pennsylvania a match for New Jersey when talking about the sheer volume of online gambling operators in the United States, from a legal perspective the two states are pretty close. Pennsylvania rolled out several bills ever since December 2018 that allowed local casinos to come out with online versions. Besides the local online casinos, some big names of the industry like Unibet or DragtKings are active here, leaving punters with plenty of options. Just like in New Jersey, the international bookmakers and casinos that want to offer their services in Pennsylvania need to form partnerships with existing local casinos. In this case, Unibet partnered with Mohegan Sun Pocono so that the legal requirements are met.

West Virginia

West Virginia solved the problem of offering online sports betting services to its citizens. This was possible right after the PASPA was overturned. However, when talking about online casinos and poker, things required a little more time. Through the West Virginia Lottery Interactive Wagering Act, it is expected that online poker rooms and online casinos will be opened inside the state later in 2020. Of course, with plenty of politicians still seeing online gambling with bad eyes, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if there will be some legal fighting until West Virginia will deliver online casino services.

Indiana

The next state on our list of leading USA territories when from an online betting and gambling perspective is Indiana. It looks like the authorities in Indiana were happy to legalize online sports betting since October 2019 through the decision of the Gaming Control Division. However, there are no clear plans about the other online gambling options such as casinos or poker. It goes without saying that the citizens of Indiana are hoping to be able to enjoy local legal online casinos as well, however, they are also allowed to play in the ones licensed by New Jersey.

Iowa

From a legal perspective, Iowa is very similar to Indiana when talking about online gambling permissions. The state of Iowa already offers sportsbooks like DraftKings, PointsBet and William Hill so that punters have many options when it comes to placing bets on real and virtual sporting events. However, from an online casino perspective, it looks like the authorities couldn’t reach an agreement and there’s no real hope of such services to become available in the near future.
