The school year is finally ending at every public school and private Catholic school in New Jersey and you have the entire summer stretching out ahead of you. Long days of sleeping late in the mornings and idling away the daylight hours are ahead, but that can easily turn to boredom after only a couple of weeks.
That’s why you really need to have a plan for enjoying your summer break with your friends and family. Below, you’ll find a few of the top things you could be doing over summer break this year, instead of lazing away the hours in bed.
Spend time with the family
One of the biggest and best things you can do over summer vacation is spend time with the family you love. While it might not seem like it now, spending time with the family is something you’ll remember forever, whether it’s curling up to watch a movie or participating in a family game night. Take the time to love your family and spend time with them, because the day will come when you wish you had.
Hit the water
There’s nothing like hitting the beach or lake on a super-hot summer morning. Make plans with your friends to head out to the water, after loading up on snacks and jet ski rentals for a day of fun in the sun. Just don’t forget to take sunscreen and always, always follow the safety rules of the water and the jet ski rules as well.
This is the perfect way to spend a summer day. Not only do you have fun with your friends, you’re getting your exercise and your dose of vitamin D at the same time.
Get a part time job
As a high school student, your future is bright and looming ahead of you. While you do need to have fun in the sun and relax over summer vacation, it’s possible that you need a little extra cash. It’s even possible that you want to learn more about the field of study you’re considering after graduation, when you head off to college.
So, why not get a part time job or an internship in your field of interest? Some internships even give you credits to help you graduate from high school early. Getting a part time job or signing up for an internship is the perfect way to make your summer count and earn some extra money at the same time.
Just don’t forget to make time for fun and relaxation as well. After all, it is still summer vacation.
Relax and read a book
Sometimes you get tired of constantly going over summer break and just want to curl up on the couch or in a hammock in the backyard and read a good book. There’s nothing at all wrong with that. It’s important to fuel your brain over summer break as well.
That’s not to say you have to read Shakespeare, or something extremely difficult. A good novel by your favorite author is just as good to keep your mind sharp for the school year to come.
Become a camp counselor
Maybe you don’t want to take on a job this summer, but you still want to feel that you’re doing something important and meaningful with your time. You could sign up to be a summer camp counselor for children this summer.
There are a variety of camps out there, from music to arts to science to general summer camps for you to choose from. Choose the one that means the most to you and help children have a great summer by guiding them in the right way to go.
These are just a few of the ways that you can spend your summer vacation this year. Whether it’s on a jet ski at the lake or helping children as a camp counselor, the summer is full of promise for everyone.
