Mitragyna speciosa, more commonly referred to as kratom, is an evergreen tree of the coffee family. It grows in the tropical climate of Southeast Asia. Its leaves are sun-dried and ground to a powder for use as alternative medicine.

There are three main types of kratom, and each of them works differently. The different strains of kratom are characterized by the coloration of the veins that run through the leaf of the plant.

Let’s take a closer look at the three main kratom strains and their different effects. Keep reading!

Red Vein Kratom

Red vein kratom is the most popular of the three kratom strains. It is most commonly used for pain relief, sleep issues, and a sense of euphoria due to its sedative properties. It is considered opioid-like in its effects.

Red kratom is the least potent of the kratom strains, and unlike the other strains, it is not considered a stimulant. While red kratom is not approved as a substitute for any medication, it is mostly used to relieve anxiety-like symptoms and pain relief.

A variant known as Maeng Da kratom originated in Thailand that offers users a more potent variant of red vein kratom. Not only that but its effects can last up to 8 hours, whereas most other kratom strains last for 5-6 hours. Read on here to find out more.

White Vein Kratom

White vein kratom is the polar opposite of its red-veined counterpart. It is not recommended to inexperienced kratom users due to its high potency that can lead to an intense experience.

White vein kratom is used for its stimulating properties. Its often used as a substitute for caffeine due to its ability to raise alertness, increase energy and concentration. Those who are sensitive to caffeine should be careful as it can cause jitteriness.

Otherwise, it is great for combatting fatigue and drowsiness without any unwanted restlessness.

Green Vein Kratom

When it comes to potency, green vein kratoms sits in the middle between red and white kratom. It is still considered as a stimulant, much like white vein kratom, but with a more subtle effect.

Green vein kratom is used for its mild energy-boosting properties. It is said to enhance focus, mental clarity, and endurance. The bonus of green vein kratom is that it also offers some of the analgesic properties of red vein kratom, but without the other sedative effects.

Which of These Types of Kratom Is Right for You?

These are the three main types of kratom, but the list doesn’t end there. Much like cannabis, there are several other strains that are essentially hybrids of the three main types of kratom.

When it comes to deciding which type of kratom is best for you, it all boils down to personal preference. Red vein kratom is an excellent choice for beginners. But if you are looking for energy-boosting properties then it is probably best to start with smaller doses of green vein kratom.

Ultimately, it will come down to trial and error by sampling different types of kratom to find out which is the best strain for you.
